GHE Annual Report 2025

The GHE Annual Report 2025 presents a consolidated overview of the organisation’s work across some of India’s most remote and climate-vulnerable regions. With a continued focus on clean energy access, sustainable livelihoods, education, healthcare and responsible tourism, the year reflects steady progress toward building durable development systems in challenging geographies.

For over ten years, GHE has been driving rural transformation through clean energy. To date, we have reached 1.3 million people, installed 1.4 MW of solar infrastructure and cut 820,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. After a year of strong growth in Maharashtra and Meghalaya in 2025, we are now setting our sights on bringing these vital solutions to communities in Chhattisgarh.

Clean Energy as a Development Enabler

Energy access remains central to GHE’s approach, enabling improved health, education and economic participation. In 2025, GHE scaled decentralised clean energy solutions including solar microgrids, space-heating systems for high-altitude regions, solar electrification and clean cooking technologies.

In regions such as Ladakh, high-efficiency space-heating stoves helped reduce firewood use and improve indoor air quality during extreme winters. In off-grid areas of Northeast India, solar-based electric pressure cooking supported the transition to cleaner, more efficient kitchens. All deployments are backed by training and system management frameworks to ensure long-term functionality.

Skills, Livelihoods and Tourism

Alongside infrastructure, GHE invested in skills and enterprise development, training over 3,500 individuals, with emphasis on women and youth. Initiatives such as the Women’s Pashmina Artisans Hub and the Eri Silk Craft Centre strengthened income opportunities while supporting regional craft traditions.

Responsible rural tourism continued as a key livelihood pathway. Through its eco-homestay network, GHE supported families with clean energy access, hospitality training and operational standards, creating village-level tourism ecosystems linked to heritage, food, art and nature.

Looking Ahead

The Annual Report 2025 reflects a year of consolidation and preparation for scale. Priorities for 2026 include expanding clean cooking interventions, strengthening inclusive homestay networks, launching the GHE Academy and extending impact expeditions to Central Asia.
